Indy Economic Development (formerly known as Develop Indy) is the new, independent nonprofit driving the growth, innovation, and vitality of Indianapolis. Established after a spin-off from the Indy Chamber in January 2025, we build on the legacy of our operation under “Develop Indy” while adopting a streamlined, forward-thinking approach to attract, retain, and expand businesses across all 400 square miles of our vibrant city.

Our mission is to make Indianapolis the premier destination for business growth, talent retention, and economic opportunity. By serving as a one-stop shop for business development, we work hand-in-hand with companies, development firms, and local stakeholders to facilitate zoning, permitting, and incentive programs that create a seamless path to success.

Indy Economic Development operates as a 501(c)4 nonprofit, complemented by a fundraising foundation, allowing us to channel resources into initiatives that drive meaningful impact. Under the leadership of President and CEO Jim Schellinger, a seasoned business leader and former Indiana Secretary of Commerce, we are equipped to compete with peer cities like Nashville, Columbus, and Kansas City in bringing transformative projects and investments to Indianapolis.

With a focus on collaboration, transparency, and results, our organization connects the dots between local and regional partners, aligning our strategies with the broader goals of the city and state. Guided by Mayor Joe Hogsett and our dynamic board of directors, we aim to harness Indianapolis’ tremendous assets to create inclusive growth, elevate local businesses, and secure a prosperous future for all.
